Hi,

I have done some screening on some webhost. So far, these few looks promising. Anyone are using them or know what they are like?

internetconnection.net
superb.net
cybercon

Thanks.

The only one of the three I've had first hand experience with is Superb. I know their CEO Haralds Jass, pretty well and he runs a very tight operation. I just did a search against them in our database and found the following comments:

I know Cybercon are a large operator, with a 20,000 square foot data center, but I've not had any personal dealings with them other than on an advertising basis.

We've interviewed both Cybercon and Superb, you might find the information they provided useful:

I hope this was of some help,

hmm... cybercon and superb are both very old n excellent companies... dealt with both of 'em... loved the service... :) but a bit on the expensive side... but ya get what ya pay for...

internetconnection.net ... never heard of... but they jacked superb's pricing table design... LOL... i don't like companies that steal web designs from others... i mean, its not that huge of an issue... but afterall, doesn't it reflect upon their ethics?

I have just had an unsatisfactory experience with Superb. Soon after I signed up (6 months ago) I found that, although their web hosting was okay, they did not meet my mail needs. For instance, they said they would have to charge me $90/hr for a "customization request" when all I requested was that they update the antiquated version of Pine on one of the servers.

I switched to another company, Dreamhost, (www.dreamhost.com), and for the most part stopped using my Superb account. I did not intend to use Superb any longer. Unfortunately, I found that Superb automatically renews your hosting and charges you for it if you do not cancel 30 days before your contract expires.

The result was this: even though I sent notice regarding my cancellation a before my new invoice was due to be paid, I still was required to pay for 30 days more service. You can read about Superb's policy in their license agreement:

In my opinion, you should not go with a host that automatically renews its contract and does not let you choose to renew only manually. I also recommend looking for a host with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Then you can have confidence that they make money just by having a good product.

Good luck.

that is such an unreasonable demand its not even funny... you expect a host with 20,000 (just a number pulled out of thin air) clients to manually wait for each client to renew their subscription?

Perhaps I did not make my complaint about Superb as clear as possible. The problem is that even if you cancel BEFORE the end of the service you have already paid for, they might still renew your contract and charge you for an extra month of service.

In effect, they renew before you reach the end of the contract period.

Once again, see

That is the kind of web hosting agreement that I suggest avoiding. Sorry for the confusion.
