Hiya,

We need someone to provide us with a merchant account to use on our ringtones websites, ask any UK bank and they run a mile with the words ringtones, we're fully licenced and so on but they seem to not want to touch us.

Who is there that we can use?

Thought, comments and experiences appreciated.

Thanks

Hello! I don’t know what exactly are you interested in but as far as I am concerned I decided to stop with ikobo – not so bad service for comparable low fees. It offers online merchant account for free (doesn’t require set up fee). How do you find this service?

hiya

thanks for the feedback but i have heard bad things about ikobo, sounds from what i've heard it's too much of a nightmare to even think about going there.

why did you drop it?

cheers

I have gathered all available info about different payment processing services and could not find any without negative feedback some or many customers expressed. And it doesn’t depend upon certain service, it’s a fact that one service can’t suit all customers needs. So you have to specify what service do you need and then search for a service most suitable for you. I have stopped with ikobo as it offered a good service for comparable low fees, also ikobo’s country coverage is one of the widest.

You could acquire a direct offshore merchant account. I know many people post on here that it's expensive however that is not true. Plus when you have your own merchant account you do not have to worry about 3PP going down, if they are going to pay you, or shutting off your account. There are some really strong EU merchant account programs out there now.

Actually from the very beginning he was not looking for a third party but for merchant account. Unfortunately I can`t suggest any good UK based. So please don`t flood, just give a suggestion or stay away.

Hi Andymoo,

My vote would go with Barclays merchant services (http://www.epdq.com/), I don?t know if you have tried them already but I have always found them to be open to reasonable suggestion.

For UK google checkout is also one of the option, also you can check with few more payment processors like worldpay, chronopay, moneybookers, 2checkout, protx and multicards etc.

As already suggested then Barclays should be an option, as long as you have license and everything that makes your business legal, then they should accept it.

Depending on the monthly turnover you have, then paypal or moneybookers would also be a good solution for you.

Finally there are other banks in Europe which would take your business, I do not know why it must be a UK bank, if it is because of the processing of GBP and settlement in GBP then most banks in Europe can do that, also the UK debit cards can be handle by many banks in Europe.

I recommend checking out WorldPay and in particular the PayPalPro service for the UK - this is beyond the normal PayPal service that most people are familiar with. It is fully integrated with your web site and the customer does not know that PayPal is behind it as the customer never leaves your web site - so all credit and debit cards including Switch Amex etc are valid and accepted.

Naturally you can use multiple currencies ...so it will handle GBP and Euros without any problems. Your bank will just see the flow of funds across into the corporate bank account from the PayPal account when you initiate them.

As we expand our site from purely North America to handling GBP and Euros then we will be using the PayPalPro service in the UK (I am a Brit living in the USA)

A merchant account is necessary for making online payment. It provides your customers with a streamlined checkout process without any third-party intervention. I have merchant account of merchantinc.com payment gateway that is one of the secure as well as merchant friendly payment gateway.
