Hello all,

Was just reading the posts here and learned quite a bit I didn't know. I'm new to the web design stuff, currently making a family website for all my relatives strewn around the country.

Anyways,I started back on the 15th,signed up with http://www.addr.com. They appeared to be a great host,at 1st. However, tonite,I left them. I had a password problem, and needed an answer to it. I sent an email, then followed up with a call to their 24x7 tech support. Well, after sitting on hold, never talking to a live person for over an hour, and waiting an additional 3 hours for an email response,I sent a followup email asking for my account deletion.

So,if any of you have any reccomendations for me,i'd appreciate it. I'm looking for the following:

1)Email response within 2 hrs or so,or ability to talk to a live person 24x7.

2)User friendly Conrol Panel,as i'm still the rookie at this.

3)Not looking to spend more than 15$ or so a month, until I figure out what i'm doing.

Thank you for any advice, and lastly,1 question:

This site will be mainly a message board, family news, and picture posting place for family memebers. How much space do you think I will need? I was ***uming around 100 megs, but is that too much,or not near enough?

Again,Thank You.

Will

Hi wfowler!
Welcome to the webhostdir.com community forums. :D

Youve got several options based on your needs. You might try doing a search on the front page http://www.webhostdir.com
There will probably be quite a few that will come up on a search.
You can always check again here in the forums, if you need to.
Control panels--that is beginning to be pretty common among host plans now, and your price range is well within reason.
As far as space, you could probably start with way less than 100mb.
Make sure you will be able to upgrade your plan, if you outgrow that smaller acct. Most hosts will offer this to.
Our hosting service offers a free upgrade to the next plan..the only charge being the difference in the plan price.Feel free to email me if you need any more help!

Depending on the size of your online community you may need 50 to 100 megs.

A good hosting plan is scalable. That is, you can sign up with a low space plan and as you grow add space or upgrade to a larger plan as your needs grow.

If that's what you think you need be sure to ask the host first.

I think, youd better start with a free hosting services.

Why ?
Because youre a Newbie in programming, you must getting familiar with making pages, scripting and it takes a lot of time just to learn that. and ...In the mean time you must already pay the hosting services.

After youre convince of making website then perhaps you could upgraded your hosting plans to be a more proffessional looks. ( spending money on Hosting )

I would suggest :

1. Looking free hosting with upgrading options, preferable.
2. getting minimum space of 10 MB, you need space for trial and error learning, eq. trying installing some scripts.

Good Luck !

Regards
Tommy
