View Full Version : I have a BIG problem with my e-library

Hi!

I just uploaded my e-library, and I was so impressed with the fact that it seemed to be working, the two free downloads are there, and some neat cover images.

But, of course, it's NOT working! You can download, but what you get won't open.

When I took a look at the actual .exe files listed on my server, I noticed that there were 0 bytes indicated in the file size for both, so nothing really uploaded.

All I did was download a couple of free e-books, and upload the same downloaded files. Why won't this work??

Thanks to anyone that can help me with this.

Amanda.

Amanda,
Did you check the files after you downloaded them yourself?
Sounds like you downloaded empty/corupt files to begin with?

I would just try to download again, and check those files before uploading to your server.
Maybe they were just corrupt or something.

how did you upload them? Was it via ASCII or binary? I'm guessing but I would presume an .exe file needs to go up via binary. Secondly, does your host allow exe files on the server? Some get a little moody about them and may have measures in place to stop them.

Hi,

First of all, to answer MizMartie's question, yes they are definately downloading properly - I checked the file properties, and I also ran them to make sure.

Greg, I have also requested support on this matter, and they didn't mention anything about having a problem with .exe files. I think you are on the right track though, as my support tech. asked me what I am using for FTP. I'm using CUTE - is there a way to switch from ASCII to binary with CUTE?

Thanks to both of you for your help,

Amanda.

That should be under
FTP
Transfer type
then just check ASCII or binary

I'd hasten to add that some ftp programs give the option of auto as well. This is supposed to pick which way to upload and do it automatically for you. It never works right, and you end up just uploading your binaries, then your text files individually anyway :)

Looks like you've just to get the ascii or binary setting correct. However, if your host doesn't allow downloading of exes from your site, try using ZIP instead. Most people either have or can download a copy of ZIP. Also, exes will download faster when compressed.
