From and SEO point of view you will want to have your main keyword or keyword phrase in the domain name and be sure to use the - for spaces and not the _

Having multiple keywords in the name that are very specific to your business is very helpful. Either that or go the branding route and pick a distinctive name.

Remember one key fact too when picking a domain name. If you are going to use the name ensure that it is not allready a registered trademark of another company. Even if the name is not registered the company that is using it will still have rights to the name in the view of the law. So it is best to do a bit of research unless the name is completely generic.
Also there is no reason to be paying more then $10 for a domain in todays market place as most registrars are lowering their prices by adding additional services to their companies and using domains as loss leaders to drive sales on more profitable services. This benefits the domain buyer.
Good Luck!

Yep but it make the domain name much longer, IMO if a preferred domain name is not available you should go with a hyphen but make it short as far as possible.

Still, if you are choosing between a very good .net or .info and a worse .com, what would you go for?

I think it depends on why you cannot get that good name in a .com. The typical reaction of most people is going to be to type .com first - if they hear a conversation or see something with your name, when they get to the keyboard they'll hit .com first.
If the .com is already a website and it's for something that has nothing to do with your website, it is possible to promote your site with a .net or .info in such a way that it will make it easier for people to remember your correct extension (" We're on the NET, at name.net" - "get your bathtub info at bathtub.info" kind of thing). I think another extension in this case would and could work for you.
If the site using the .com is something close to your site in content, you will be sending them business by using one of the other extensions. Some of your type-in traffic will inevitably get to them. If that's the situation, I'd choose a different name, rather than risk sending my clients to someone else.
