I've been hearing rumors that Microsoft is planning to stop supporting Windows NT 4.0 !

I've heard this on http://www.iisanswers.com and the site moderator has also confirmed this with his Microsoft buddies.

This is a bit of a joke! What an uproar will ensure if people are forced to move to Win2K. Some people have only got things working on NT. Last thing that is required is a forced upgrade to Win2K.

I reckon that Microsoft will be forced to back down on this, there are far too many outfits out there using it. The migration path to Win 2K is not necessarily easy with fully configured applications that are running smoothly. I'm thinking of moving over to new servers but I was hoping to keep NT 4 (one step at a time.....) However, finding myself having to upgrade as well - well, thats another pain in the ......

Can anyone else throw light on such joyous news ?

Mr. Bill for years has wanted one OS based on NT. He wanted to merge the 95/98 OS with the NT OS.

Old news! Loses support later this year. It is no rumour. It is standard Microsoft policy on the aging support of systems. I DID have a link on their product support services site regarding this.

They will still support it via PSS but they will NOT provide security/hotfixes any more.

That's very very normal.
