I've been seeing a lot of advertisements for different courses and stuff about how to make money on the internet. but I think a lot of it just looks like scams. anyone here have some pointers on how a beginner would start or where to look for honest information?

no prior experience in internet income?
i guess you could start with joining more forums, meet more people.
and most importantly learn to promote a website. by that time, anything u selling, will reach the customer. thus u got sales. :D

Two tips for you:
(1) Find a place that isn't selling anything - if they aren't selling, and you're not buying, then you don't have to worry about any scams
(2) Avoid places with lots of flashy banner ads and bold type - pretty much anyone who seems 'too excited' to help is eventually going to try and ask formoney
Best of luck!

Ad says you nothing. Try to find real customers and ask them for review. I think it isthe best way.

Hi,
Be very very careful with your hard earned money as there are way too many people willing to take it off your hands for something which is naff/does not work/substandard
I would do your research very carefully indeed

I wouldn't recommend paying for any of these services when there is so much free informtion available on net. As a perevious poster said, look for sites and forums that aren't selling anything or heavily sponsered.

There is a lot to be said for the old expression, "If it is to good to be true, it probably is." Do not fall for any outragous claims.
Always keep that in mind. As mentioned already, forums are a great place to find out information. You can find a forum for almost anything.

You can also think of signing affiliation program for some reputed company if you have a high traffic site
[ If you are interested you can consider affiliate program from my sig ]

Even today with all our technology and access to a variety of information, the best way is to ask someone you trust and has done this.

It depends on one's potential about money making and yea... flashy banners are often misleading..
