Hi All,

Most of my offerings don't require customers to have a domain - they can chose a subdomain off of ours if they so wish. However, there is one application that requires it's own domain to work properly - WordpressMU.

I'd like to offer a free domain, but I'm not sure how I would go about doing that. I mean, I can certainly go register and pay for a domain, but then I'm faced with the problem of transferring it to the customer as I will own it.

If there some way to register and pay for a domain in another person's name? Or is that even wise? Perhaps I should register it in my own name and then the customer is stuck with me for the initial 60 days?

Just wondering if anyone else is doing this and if so how it's being handled.

Thanks!

We're offering $1.99 Domains as part of our Hosting promotion.

There are API services allowing you you to directly purchase domains. This will generally run you a few hundred a month just to have this ability. Then of course if you want to offer domains for free that's up to you.

Put their name as the registered contact. That way they will own it, but they won't be able to transfer it for 60 days after you register it. Just make sure if they move, you change their nameservers. You will be the technical and billing contact for the domain.

Here's where the catch comes in (relative to the other post I made). If they leave you before you have basically earned back your x amount of dollars, deduct the domain name cost from their refund. Put it in your TOS to back it up.

That's how we do it. I register all domains in the customer's name so they basically have complete control. That way you aren't accused of holding their domain hostage. :)

Not sure I follow you. Subdomains I can give out willy-nilly. I'm just curious about "full fledged" domain names. I don't understand what CJB is doing.

I have hosted my site with ixwebhosting after seeing the review on your site.

Several times I have faced many issues but this time they are lost all DATA from my PRODUCTION site.

After consulting them its now 4 days that they are unable to recover the data and my Production site is down due to lost data.

I have lost my major cutomers.

They frequently keep on changing the ip of MYSQL server without any intimation or communication.

How can you Top rate such hosting service providers.

Please review and investigate there service. People TRUST you so please dont BREACH there trust.

PLEASE DO THE NEEDFULL INVESTIGATION IN THIS MATTER.

Why would you post this message into this thread? This thread has nothing to do with your issues with your host.

Can a mod move this somewhere else? It looks like someone in this thread recommended this host to this guy.

The only thing I can think is register the name on their behalf in a "master" account and when the next year renewal comes up just do a change of registrant to another account with your company. (If your account manager has this ability)

You can also try a domain reseller service :)
