Web Hosting Article - The importance of ?keeping the customer satisfied? in the Web Hosting industry (http://www.webhostdir.com/news/articles/showarticle.asp?id=426)

EXTRACT
The web hosting industry is one of the most competitive industries on the Internet today. Web hosts are constantly thinking of new advertising campaigns in the hope of attracting more interest to their company; and, hence to attract more customers. While this is an important goal for any web host it is just as important to recognize and value the customers you already have. more (http://www.webhostdir.com/news/articles/showarticle.asp?id=426)

This isn't related much to the article directly, but has everyone else noticed that 'customer satisfaction' seems to be the new buzzword in the industry lately. A few months ago you never heard it mentioned, but no you can't turn your heard without seeingit mentioned somewhere...

.. You'd almost think it was a new thing :)

Always a clear sign of a recession when companies start giving a damn about where their next dollar is coming from...... you never know pretty soon real estate agents might actually start calling you back too ;)

That's the strange part. Most other hosts I know don't seem to be suffering any real difference in signups than at any other time (seasonally adjusted). Seems the only people wailing about the death of webhosting are those that were riding high on VC money a few years back.

Did you catch this months issue of WHMag? What piffle.. :)

Well the cover is black on black (like a Metallica album), and the main article is a 10 page diatribe about how the webhosting industry is dead, using 'information' that's nothing new, been mentioned a thousand times before and seems to focus on the top end of town. (maybe they think that's where all the 'important' hosting is only).

It wobbles along for a while before falling over at the end exhausted mentioning that the industry has learnt the lesson that spending lots of money on nothing and ignoring customers won't lead to success *shrug*. Funny, I was pretty sure most of the hosting companies I know didn't need to learn that as they all tend to try for that old chesnut, the "responsible business plan" approach.

The worst part about the issue was Chubby Johnston and Bit Bunker weren't up to par either. :)

So surely publishing a magazine thats "FREE" and makes money from ad sales to a "dying" industry might not be such a smart idea for them? Interestingly to day in contrast to that pile of ...... iI saw this article [Summary}

$1.7bn spent on web hosting by 2005

UK companies will spend $1.7bn by 2005 on outsourcing web hosting as it becomes cheaper than supporting in-house, say analysts. European user spend on web hosting and managed services will increase from $1.8bn this year to $6.8bn in 2005, according to the report, European Web Hosting Services, 2000-2005

Well the cover is black on black (like a Metallica album),

No. Its black like Led Zeppelin's 4. (Sorry, different generation :p )

If you are just now realizing that that magazine is written for idiots, I feel sorry for you. j/k.

They cater to big boys. Plus their knowledge is very limited. ISP Check is the same. I would never consider that magazine a serious web hosting tool. It is fun to read, but as far as a source to learn. No way. That article just proves what I have known for over a year now - that they are journalist majors with no understanding of the web hosting market apart from what the big guys tell them.
