J/K.

Here`s a stewpid question: I`ve heard ALOT of people say that CI Host is real bad. Is it becuase their servers were slow, or was it because they have alot of down- time?

I almost had heart failure when I read the topic......

I think the reason most people don't like them is the large amounts of down time....

Hey you almost forgot the non existant level of support they offer. :)

I just thought they had pointless advertising (http://forums.webhostdir.com/showthread.php?threadid=170) at ISPCon :D

They've been around so long and seem to have a big advertising budget they must have at least some happy customers (or someone with very deep pockets backing them).

I'm sure they do have some happy customers but they've had a bad rep ever since that fiasco.

The amazing thing is that I've been involved with the Internet and hosting for many years and as far back as I can remember, CI Host has had a bad reputation.

How do they stay in business?

Thats the biggest shame of it all....Ive known some pretty bad companies as well....AND, you guessed it there are many still in business.
I just dont understand it:confused:

Yeah, it seems like the bad ones, have it easy. Take, Microsoft for instance, they sell insecure and very buggy software, yet they still stay around.

market penetration probably has a lot to do with it. High churn is fairly easy to combat if your sign-ups outnumber those people actively leaving. It's all still growth... Just imagine how big they'd be in they managed to hold onto all those extra customers though.

To combat high churn I've seen companies making it difficult for people to leave.

I've seen more than one complaint on another forum. Every time they went to cancel their account, CI Host 's website was down.

Basically their hosting SUCKS! Unfortunately their marketing doesn't

Currently they've got around 90,000 sites hosted, which is about double what they had a year ago.

You've got to spend some serious cash to grow that fast, especially given that, word of mouth recommendations are going to help your cause ;)

i was just reading the stuff written about CIHOST at www.badwebhost.com. How the hell can CIHOST screw up this bad and so often.
I just read the article where they charged over a thousand dollars on someone`s credit card for bandwidth usage. CIHOST wanted to charge $20 dollars per GB! That`s insane, it should be less than $3.00 per extra GB at that volume.
On CIHost`s website, does it say that they charge you $20 dollars per GB if you go over 10 GB?

i just went to cihost`s website and it doesn`t say anywhere that you`ll be charged $20 per GB if you go over their UNLIMITED bandiwdth. It should be clearly stated in your face.
I`m bored right now, so i`m gonna call them and and harrass them a little about their @#$! up bandiwdth policy. I like to yell and bi**ch when i`m bored. Actually, i`ll just call CIHost from now on when i want to vent.

You guys were so right:

I just called CIHOST and i couldn`t get through at all. I waited on their support line, their sales line, and their billing dep, but nobody ever came to the bloody phone!
I waited on hold for almost thrity minutes, while i played around on the internet. Oh well, so much for that.

If I was a customer of theirs, they wouldn't want to answer the phone if I had to wait for an hour. :)

yeah, i`m glad i don`t host my site there.

I have a question:
If someone is a reseller and they have a unique DNS (ns1.mydomain.com), can anyone still be able to find out if they are a reseller?

Isn`t the only way someone can find out if someone is a reseller is if the reseller is dumb enough not to have their own DNS?

And do alot of hosting companies have a control panel that looks similar? Because i know a hosting company who has this nice looking control panel, and then i saw two other hosting sites with a control panel that looked EXACTLY like it. Could it be that they just used the same control panel software, or could this mean that there`s a good chance they were resellers or whatever?

Delta airlines have chosen CI to appear in an inflight video! Take a look at why Delta chose CI :shake:

"I wanted to do something on an Internet service provider for our news segment," said Scott Vrabel, program director and vice president for development at Capital Media Network. "I asked my staff for a list of names and we selected C I Host based on Christopher, his age and his success in a pretty new company."

Vrabel said he was particularly impressed by C I Host?s nearly 100,000 clients worldwide, its growth rate of 200 percent, and advertising it has done in the past 2 years, putting its name on Evander Holyfield?s shorts for his heavyweight title match and sponsoring the return of Howard Stern to a Dallas radio station.

"We think this is a tremendous story," Vrabel said. "I expect C I Host to be a household name very quickly."

House hold name, well I wont argue with her there

Another area of their site claims they now have more than 7,000 resellers who bring in 300+ accounts every day.

JTY

They need those new sign-ups, customers keep leaving....

CI Host is WORST than you could ever imagine.

They can delete your site (as they did in my case) and it takes you WEEKS to finally talk to someone who'll tell you - we have no backups of your site. Sorry for the inconvenience.

There goes your investment of time, money, energy, and ther go your users.

If I had to vote, I'd give them a negative 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.

:o  :o

If you ever look at their company pictures, you will see lots of kids. That is what happens when you have a bunch of kids running the place that don't care, no respect probably.

You can find out, just do a whois on the IP address of their DNS address.
