View Full Version : Question about NSI

I'm interested in registering a few domain names, and I've checked that they are expired, some by a few months, and one of them by TWO YEARS, yet they still seem to be active.
One common trait they share: Registrar = NSI
I'm thinking NSI is real value-for-money here. I don't have to pay more money to renew a domain name and it's still active 2 years after the expiry date.
Hmm...isn't there some law or ICANN regulation that states all expired domain names be released to the public?
Well, if there isn't one, there SHOULD be one...

I believe you just have to wait it out and there is no telling how long that will be. I would NEVER recommend NSI to anyone, ever!
I dont know why they hold those domains like that
This is common with NSI
Not only do they do that...they also have POOR service for anything else as far as changes, etc.
Too many good registrars out there now.
I think 000domains.com is the easiest for clients to manage their domains :D

Colin,
welcome to the club :) I've been watching an 'expired' domain since September last year when it ran out. It's still not available, and is well past the use by date. All you can do is wait till it finally drops off the tree. I think in a lot of case they sit there till they appear in auction and someone pays way too much money. Domain hoarders are bad enough but when it's Net Sol doing it that's just using a stacked deck....

So there's absolutely nothing that anyone can do about it?
Isn't there some rule or clause somewhere set by ICANN or something that prevents this (why do I get the feeling that some of you are laughing at this sentence)?
I wouldn't mind buying an active domain name off someone, but when it's one that's already expired, I'm gonna be paying someone for something that he/she doesn't own anymore?
Grr...

No, there's not much you can do... It's just one of those little reasons they get to wear the black hat in this movie. As an update, the domain I've been watching since it expired in September last year is *still* expired, and still unavailable.
Oddly it's not even available at Great Domains... It's not being sold off to the highest bidder - it's just unavailable.

I think it's ridiculous that NSI can hold domains, like that....

What as the out come of that law suit against NSI last year? Didn't it force them to turn over expired domains faster??

And, I thought ICANN was suppose to deal with those sort of issues.....

I'd be very suprised if *that end* of the internet spends much time online at all. To them it's all board meetings and stock options. It doesn't suprise me they look to have their heads buried in their backsides, because at the end of the day, they probably do :)
The moment that coporate machine takes over you can usually write off a company or an organization for having any decent level of consumer interaction - unless you own shares of course...

Well, I think something should be done about it...... but, I don't think anyone can do anything.....
