I suppose that is already separated kind of the services.
Why don't do the Google search for that. I suppose you will be able to find a lot of results there

Yeah why online server why you don't want your hard disk for this purpose.

I have an external hard drive but i often work in different locations and thought this may be a good way to access all of my files remotly. I also understand that some backup companies automatically update all of the files when they are changed. This would be very useful as I always forget to back up as often as I should...

With 10GB, you can use NetCDP to backup to Amazon S2, 10GB would cost you about $1.5-2.0 a month by average.
http://www.netcdp.com
If your data is <25 GB, NetCDP costs less than most of the online service. Don't believe "unlimited", all of them delete your files if the files are deleted from local drive. So your actual usage is limited to your PC disk drive. Also, system files are not backup in general. So you do your math. "Unlimted" is just for PR.

Your current web hosting provider doesn't provide an online backup solution?

Online backup (http://hostingsource.com/backup_plans.php) hostingsource.com offers on lovely conditions.
Prices are affordable and they offer discounts if you sign up for 6 or 12 months.

I think you might want to find a VPS, as for Shared / Reseller plans the host might find it a problem.
You can get a VPS for around $10/m that will fit your needs.

Ahh for online backups rather than websites hosting, I know 2 good options:
Amazon AS
RackSpace Cloud Files
Both are very reputable and big companies.

Why don't you have a look at http://www.blockbackup.com, a 20GB account will only cost 2.99 per month and it will allow you to backup offsite and locally at the same time. This way you get the best of both worlds

Hi BobbyBoy, if you are looking for a cheap solution for online backup services check out our website (http://www.jamby.com). Our tariffs are the cheapest out there! After installing the software once, having defined the settings, the backups are performed automatically.
In contradiction to other providers, our tariffs are VAT inclusive.

Best I've found is Drop box. You can set it up in less than 5 minutes, and try out the free version. If you like it, they offer affordable prices for extending your storage space.
There many online backup services and solutions. Mozy and Carbonate seem to be the leaders. They offer the "complete service" including desktop software and data storage. Amazon only has the back end storage but Amazon is bar far the best Cloud Storage provider but it is not well known to customers.
Mozy and Carbonate have many negative reviews and angry users because of their poor software quality and customer support. It is very hard to restore your files if something goes wrong. You can find lots of such reports by searching their names.
There are a lot of very good 3rd party software let you backup to Amazon. I would recommend Net CDP to all home users, it is the easiest I have seen so far but with almost everything you need as an online backup application. I have been using it since its Beta and very happy with it. Check it out at http://www.netcdp.co

I would like to recommend you to consult with some expert in your region who deals in computer sale and purchase. He can better suggest you what to do.

Get a free account on Mozy, SugarSync and I beleive ElephantDrive, but I'm not sure about ED, the first two give you 2Gb worth of free data to use. And are great,.
You will find actually that most of your files neevr change, it's only a few important porject files that change so it's worth moving those into a subdirectory and using your backup software with them,
I personally use sugarsync, and I've tried both mozy and sugarsync. What sets sugarsync apart is that as soon as you're done finished editing a file it will automatically upload onto the server, and then your other couper will download and synchronise with it when you boot it up.
Now I know this isn't something new, and possibl;e to do with a lan setup, but I don't have the time to set it up. My sugarysnc software sorted this out for me in a couple of minutes, it's completely changed the way I work (I'm self employed, so these productivity tools mean a lot to me)..

Also Online backups are better and cheaper than tape or DVD backups IMO.
Most people just look at the monthly cost of online backup, and thing is a rip off (a mere $5 per month).. A physical solution costs about 3 years worth of hardware backup equipment. And didn;t last as long either. Plus backups are easier and instant, as soon as you save a file it's uploaded and archived. How many times have you restored a backup and found your data to be too old?

I would suggest you to use an online backup they are better than off line backup even an external hard drive is NOT safe enough. Why? Because these drives fail all the time. I was backing up religiously to a $100 external USB drive last year and about Fire? what about if it got stolen? so you better backup online, I personally use ZenOK Online Backup! it is cheaper and everything you choose to include will be there for you to download on any computer you access.

I have an international hard drive but i often work in different locations as well as thought this may be a beneficial way to access all of my files remotly. I also understand that some backup companies mechanically update all of the files when they are changed.
