Hi All
I just moved my 10000 unique hits a day site over to primemaster last week, well it got transferred yesterday but guess what
+ I can't chmod my files
+ I can't use Exec CGI command
+ i can't use SSI within SSI
I have lost thousands of visitors , wanna know why...
cuz the support guys never replied to my questions when i needed.. i am still awaiting for a reply to a mail i sent yesterday at 10 AM and it's now 11AM today. :(
As i just joined them i don't have the time to move again, as i took a day off to do all the move over, but i guess for them i was just YET ANOTHER CUSTOMER ...
Don't even think about moving over ... :( Oh yeah by the way i got their address from CNET cuz they were on the top of the list in good cheap hosts... i bet they would be best in Cheap Service as well.

I wonder did you contact them before moving over?
Hopefully your problem is worked out by now?
Keep us updated..
If you just moved and still have no response from them, I would certainly recommend moving again, and getting a refund/credit from them.
I dont know what kind of policies they have BUT you can always contact your cc or bank, and have them do a chargeback?

Actually MizMartie, the thing is i got a reply, saying WE HAVE SO MANY CUSTOMERS TO REPLY, DON'T GET FRUSTRATED IF WE CAN'T REPLY BACK IN FIVE MINUTES..what i can say to that is, i don't think that's a good excuse, if you can't handle CRITICAL ENQUIRIES DON'T RUN THE BUSINESS ..RIGHT? for god's sake man .. the people replied back after exactly 24 hours :( Can u you anyone recommend a host who gives good amount of space and doesn't charge a bomb ..
thanks a ton

Well you could post what exactly you need (disk space, bandwidth, etc)and try doing a search for those needs here
http://www.webhostdir.com/hostsearch/search.asp?SearchType=Advanced
I found a few user reviews. Its never advisable to go with a host that offers unlimited.

Thats probably down to a problem with the transatlantic backbone. We've been experiencing poor conectivity to the US for a few weeks on and off.

Try using tracert to determine which carrier is preventing access to your site - as James says, it might be nothing to do with the host.
Good luck anyway.

yeah chunder
it probably doesnt' have anything to do with the host, probably the backbone, but would you stay with a host who hasn't even replied to your queries about 30 DAY MONEY BACK, and information on why hasn't the SSI command being allowed while i purchased the highest plan he had. i think they are a fraud... it couldn't get worst, as i already had three of my other friends join them :(

The SSI thing is a possible bug in the setup. It does happen on rare occation. Tech support should be able to get it going quickly.
The general non-reply to emails is more worrisome.
James
May 16th, 2001, 06:29 AM
Failing to reply to customer emails, is inexcusable.
poorapagal
May 16th, 2001, 07:23 AM
Yeah it sure is inexcusable but do they care :( by the way i tried their number but it wasn't working..
888 991 0440
If i dial from uk i have to put
+1 888 991 0440 ..right??
Just gonna have a friend in Cali to call them now.. will see what they say.
But does anyone the specs i had above
600MB +
200000 hits a day (6000 unique hits)
CGI
server side includes (SSI)
Realaudio support
Telnet access
Cuz i am worried the host, IF HE GIVES ME THE MONEY BACK, will just shut my account and i already had my other host cancel my account from friday, i can't be with the old one cuz it's only 300 MB space but their tech support was so good.

yeah james, i tried that yesterday just thinking if it would work with that specific host as nothing of theirs is working, well the thing is even after calling within the calling hours they still didn't respond, just voicemail. Do you or anyone else know how can i go about this situation, cuz i use lots of server side includes and cgi rotating ads within the SSI's ..
Does anyone know any host who has tons of space to offer for upto $30 per month.

I checked on our database and theyve only had one user review, which was very brief, but sounded promising.

yeah i did see the host in the interview section, well i will try to call them now if they are open 24 hours that is, and see what we can do...

Let me know how you get on.
Before you commit to anything, it might also be worth you looking through the advertising forum or doing a search on our main database. http://www.webhostdir.com/search/az.aspx

Well i am thinking of moving to
Hot Web Hosting
I am only five minutes away from registering so if i get any reply from anyone who recommends it other than what's in the interview i would take it :) or just proceeed with it, as i have to desperately as i already cancelled my other host account for this friday.. (not a good move ae)

Again I found only one user review, which looked OK. It might be worth hanging on for a few hours as the US members of the forums dont really get going until later in the day.

I think most toll free numbers are not accessible from outside the US.
Am I right?

We have an International Toll Free line........which means it works in Canada and the U.S.
So they might have a Canada toll free number, or a U.S. toll free number or an International number......it depends how much money they want to spend on one.
James
May 16th, 2001, 09:53 AM
>US toll free numbers aren't available, you always get a recorded voice which tells you that the call will be billed at a standard rate. The call then gets re-directed, so it still should work fine
> If your up against time, I'd move over to a monthly budget host while you take a breather and look around for something more permanent. At least that way your not going to get forced into making any rash decisions.
What does everybody else think?

I think that's a good idea, even if moving again after that would be a chore. The 600mgs for $30 will make it hard to find a good quality host I think. That's quite a lot of diskspace for the price you're asking.. Not out of the question though.. Hmm, Tera-byte maybe?

Well, in primemaster.com's defense, I have been hosting with them since early January and they seem to be great to me :) I am in the US though. Everytime I call, someone picks up, and for the most part are very helpful. That is too bad that you weren't able to chmod any of your files...strange actually. I have always been able to do that. Anyway, I pay a low price, and they have always been super nice to me when it comes to technical support... and my site seems to load fairly quick (although I have some monstrous Flash files on there) on 56k... that is my experience anyway... the best hosting i've received so far...

well that's good theitch .. glad your experience was better than mine, if you check the thread on hostvelocity.. you will see that i don't start shouting without reason. If a sponsor on my site is paying for his impressions i might as well show his banner in the he/she wanted me to.
I hadn't recieved a reply until after 24 hours saying..
"you should be able to chmod your files"
Now is that an answer?? I replied back right away.. i can't do it.. it's not my first time .. i have been running 5 successful sites since 6 years.. do you think i would have problems chmoding a file when "it can be".
Well it's over for me now ... good luck to you and your site...haven't recieved a refund yet... now is that good service??

Now i wonder if i had said that in my previous message on this thread ;)

Hi poorapagal, I host with PrimeMaster as well as I told you last time...whenever I CHMOD files I have to reconnect in FTP before it shows the permission change. Try that, I bet it will work
poorapagal
Jun 7th, 2001, 02:19 AM
yeah theitch tried that man... reconnecting probably hundred times before i got in touch..
