According to a link on the PP site, ebay is going to buy them.

This can't be a good thing. :(

They might as well, their in-house payment system blows chunks, and by integrating the system that most people use, they can streamline the process so that it becomes as one-click as shopping at amazon.com

Why will this blow? I think it's a good thing for what was mentioned in the first reply. Ebay used to use paypal exclusively then started their own ebay big pay or some such other name... I don;t think anything will change, infact you will probably get better service for your ebay auctions. I also don't think thwy will exclude other online auction services because this is a big chunk of paypal customers. That's like biting off your leg to spite your arm.

If you don't like it anyways I think wellfargo has their own version of paypal. There are plenty of alternitives.

Many people use PP for things other than ebay auctions. Manye-commerce sites use PP as their main payment method. And over the last year or so PP has been pushing using their shopping cart and store front services. All of which conflict (are competitors) to ebay's core business of auctioning.

Anyone who's been on Ebay for at least the last 12-18 months (especially as a seller) knows that ebay has a nasty habit of raising fees and imposing very protectionistic rules on thosewho use their services.

I agree the ebay CC collection system was poor but if they same people who made that system now buy PP, what makes you think they'll run PP any better then they did their own system?

Depends on how much they are actually buying; whether or not they are just picking up that piece of Xcom, the whole kit and caboodle, and if they'll be keeping the staff or replacing them with the people who were running ebay's system.

From what ive read about this deal it screams of over pricing. They've valued the business at almost 1999/00 levels, something along the lines of 7.5 times annual sales! Is this a sign that the US resession is coming to an end....lets start a campaign to bring back the hype of the glory days!!

Who's with me?

Nooooo....no more hype! and no more swag! I spent about 6 months on the dotcom networking party circuit in the summer of 2000.

It was all hype, and no substance. And my liver may never be the same.

Favorite swag: psychochick.com t-shirt (they are long gone, but the domain's for sale)

Most collectible swag: Enron's bandwidth scam rubber duck. It keeps stealing paper out of the shredder for it's nest.

Most expensive swag: Netscout's Motorola Talk-about radio (they mailed it to me unsolicited, and then when I refused to invite their salesman to call, they asked me to send it back. Postal laws say it's mine, and I shared the tidbit with the reporter who covered the scene that year).

Hopefully ebay will fix paypal's problems. Mainly freezing accounts for no reason and taking years to get the funds back if you ever get them back at all.

Seems to be doing fine.
