1. What is the most common kind of reselling program?
2. What are some good resellers?
3. Do resellers make money?
...
I have been looking at a few reseller hosting sites including, http://www.micdhosting.com/ and http://www.triservers.com/ ...

Hello Skateboarder.
1. What is the most common kind of reselling program? Resellers accounts come in different flavours. (Host set number of domains, unlimited domains, web space, bandwidth...etc. Simply decide which one suits your needs best)
2. What are some good resellers? Depends on hwat you need and operating system. (Linux/ Unix or Windows) have a look at the Web Hosting Offers section below.
3. Do resellers make money? Yes, resellers do make money. How much money depends on your services and market.

Reselling comes in a number of forms such as:
- You get a dedicated machine are are allocated some space from a host and you create whatever size accounts with whatever features you want and charge whatever you want.
- You sign-up with a host to resell their plans. You buy the plans dirt-cheap and mark them up as you wish.
- You sign-up as a sales agent for the host, sell their plans as they are and get a residual commission per sale.
Each way has it's pros and cons. All depends on how much time and resources you have/want to put to the effort. Same with making money - it's a function of the time and effort you put in.

trying to make millions as a reseller is like trying to email bill gates for a donation to your negative-balance checking account! but we resellers not only enjoy what we do, but if you have a good name and enough people know about you, you may generate considerable personal income after some time.
since you're new to the game, i'd say that bizland.com/reseller is a good start for you. i have not yet used the services of bizland, however, i believe their reseller program is very young, with a nice console. check it out and let me know what happens!

1. What is the most common kind of reselling program?By program not 100% sure of your intentions.....
For control panels or software, most people use Plesk or Ensim
If you are talking about style, most people use virtual server accounts until they get enough customers to pay for a dedicated server.
2. What are some good resellers?I will not answer this question since I offer reseller accounts.
The only advice I can give is check into the background of any company by checking the many hosting forum sites on the internet.
3. Do resellers make money? There is plenty of money to be made, as long as you provide a good service.

It is just as possible to make a lot of money as a reseller as it is to own and manage the server. You just have to find the right price. It's going to be real hard making money just marking up someones hosting packages. Best place to look would be for a host offering multiple domain hosting for one price.

Hi,
Here is one thread (pretty old) but I believe it will lead you to some more current discussion on them,
http://forums.webhostdir.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1603&highlight=CIHOST.com
I would have to agree with JTY.
Ive read much more negative than positive, and I usually try to keep my opinion 'neutral' because I think its important for the consumer to do their OWN research on their own potential host.
This is an exception though because there are SO many negative comments, so Im pretty comfortable in saying that if you do that research you can find a co. that can suit your needs much better!
Good luck and keep us posted!

I've heard that customer service sucks. And, a few cases of outages.

Yes CI Host leaves a lot to be desired as everyone else before has pointed out. Find a better host, and if CI Host tries to contact you RUNNNNNN like the wind!
[Update]
I may have jumped with this advice as other threads seem to show that CI Host has turned things around. The opinion I gave is based on service provided to me several years ago and back then they 'stunk'!

Bingo. That's the key to a profitable reselling business (or any kind of business, for that matter): Making sure the revenue you generate is enough to cover your costs and earn you an acceptable level of profit.
It can be done in reselling just as in any other kind of business, but you need to do some careful homework first to make sure you have realistic expectations about your upfront costs, customer signup prospects and revenue earnings.
Also critical is a well mapped-out marketing plan -- before you even set up your reseller account. If you know from Day One who your customers are, and how you can reach them (in a cost-effective way), you're well ahead of many other new reseller hosts.
Hope this helps!

I don't usually direct people to other forums but you might find this of interest:

I'd probably look elsewhere in your shoes.

After some checking, decided not to go with IMHOSTED. Anyway, have shortlisted alohahosts.com and httpme.com. The latter seems frank and honest while the former do seem friendly....... anyone can help me out here? Should be signing up within a few weeks:p
