Is online backup a good and safe way to store your files and operating system just in case of a hard drive crash? If so, any recommendations on a reliable site that does this? Thanks in advance.

You can backup all files to your desktop computer or laptop - no problem about it. But you need to understand that important to have enough space on your hard drive for that.
In any case I suppose using third party online backup service would be better and not so expensive

Would it not be cheaper to get an external hard drive to back up onto?

Depending on the backup provider you choose, it can be a good and safe way of backing up.

Before you decide to do online backups, think about how long it's going to take to upload all of your files online. If you have a lot of gigabytes of data then it's going to take a very long time.

I would recommend using an external hard drive or even an additional hard drive in your computer. If you have a bit of extra money to spend, think about getting a NAS.

Hello

Because you are reading this article, which means that you are the type of person who uses a computer for your general information. This probably also means that you do a lot of work on the computer, and therefore have a lot of important information saved to it. Have you saved all of that information in at least one other place besides you computer?

What if something was to happen to your computer and all of your important files were erased? This is why you need to make sure that you are backing up your information somehow. There are a lot of different ways to backup your information on your computer.

One of the best ways to do so is to buy yourself an external hard drive. An external hard drive is just a separate hard drive that you can hook up your computer and save or look at files that are saved on it. The hard drive is totally separate from your primary computer, which ensures that if anything went wrong with your computer, the hard drive would be there with all of your important information.

Another excellent way to make sure that your information is kept safe is to hire a backup server company. Their services are generally cheap and allow you to save all of your information to their programs, computers and hard drives so that if something crashes on your computer, it will all be there safe and sound in their system. This is probably the best way to guarantee that your important files will be safe.

if you are using a webhost you can always do cpanel backup in your control panel. many people forget to make back-ups. I think your idea is valid for having a backup for your local drive. However, backup drives are pretty inexpensive these days... it may just be easier to buy one from staples, office max, etc.

It depends on the hosting company that you are going to backup your files with. Its important for those files which you need in emergency and have accidentally deleted them from your computer.

Online backup of files is a safe option, and its safe only if the backup solution isn't going to misuse the files that you have uploaded. They are yours and you should have the right to do anything with them, so keep a check about that too.
If you still don't feel secure about online backup, buy an external hard drive and have an extra copy of all the files which are important.

Well, it really depends on the sort of information you are considering to back up. For example, if your computer is loaded with multimedia files including recorded movies and music items, you may consider burning them onto some DVDs which would remain close to you and no need using internet and then save them over the net which may not remain very safe for ever.

Hi, angil

I think a local backup on a removable hard disk would be safer than any online services, in my own experiences. ;)

Have a nice day,

Hello Friends...

Once data is lost, it is difficult to recover. Having a good backup provides you with an important safety net. To backup your files simply means copying files to a second medium as a precaution in case the first medium fails.

1.Insert floppy disk, hard disk, zip disk, CD, or tape into your computer.

2.Select and right click the documents you would like to backup or save.

3.Select copy.

4.Go to my computer and open up that file.

5.Find the device that you would like to save it to

6.Once you have found the device right click it and select paste.

7.Give your computer time to download or compy the information you are backing up and remove the device.

Thanks

It's good, but you should also have an onsite backup close to you, so you can restore quickly. The offsite backup should only be used if, say, your house burns down. Carbonite works great for online backup.

U can have backup of your operating system if u have enough space on your server hard drive or any alternate drive. But need that u Familiar with the restore procedure . If u face any problem with operating system then u can restore.

Storing anything personal or important on these sites is a big mistake in my opinion. While 99.9 percent of the time everything will be OK it's the .1% that will ruin your life.

A really simple way to back up a small amount of files online is using Dropbox. This provides a directory and everything that goes in there is backed up online. This can then be synchronised across any number of computers.

Yes, absolutely your PC data will be save there. Nowadays, online backup is much popular in the industrial area and for any company or just for your personal data, they are providing reliable and secure services that will be really useful for you.

Good luck!!!

SSL Security - So that nobody can encrypt or decrypt your data
Continuous Data Protection - Real Time data backup
Customer Support - The backup solution must have good customer support

Sadly, I can't tell you how many people have come to us over the years after setting up local backups, only to find that they didn't work, or the user didn't keep up with them, so they've now failed, or even worse that they weren't setup right in the first place.

Online backup isn't magically better: good online backup comes with excellent monitoring systems so that the online backup service will tell you if the backups are failing or not working correctly. The best online backup services will actually help you setup the backup correctly as well.

Also consider this, if you are backing up to a portable HD and you are not keeping it off property there is a chance you could still lose everything to a fire/flood/natural disaster. So with that said if you are not the type to keep a backup of property it might be in your best interests to use an online backup service. Just make sure they offer encryption at the point of transfer.
