SaaS is a software delivery method that provides access to software and its functions remotely as a Web-based service. SaaS is a term used to describe a storage model where a business or organization rents or leases storage space from a third-party provider. Hosting an application is very different than developing it. You can't let your engineers manage this for your. You need a new center of excellence. It's a new skill, a new way of looking at the world and the requirements.

SaaS (Software as a Service) is an application hosted on a remote server and accessed through the Internet.
A simple and concrete example of SaaS are the "free" email (also called web-based email) systems offered on the Internet such as Microsoft Hotmail, G-mail and Yahoo Mail. Each program meets the basic criteria of an SaaS application: a vendor (Microsoft, Google or Yahoo) hosts all of the programs, logic and data in a central location and provides end users access to this data and the software which is run and used over the world-wide web.
This "simple" application architecture can then be applied to a wide range of software applications for use by either business enterprises or individual end-users.

Well, I have read all of the stuff which is discussed here and I want to say that Software as a service (SaaS) is a way of delivering applications over the Internet. The other thing that I want to say you that as its service you just have to install and maintaining software, you simply access it via the Internet.

'SaaS', or 'Software as a Service', describes when users 'rent' or borrow online software instead of actually purchasing and installing it on their own computers. It is the same situation as people using Gmail or Yahoo mail services, except that SaaS goes much further. SaaS is the foundational idea behind centralized computing: entire businesses and thousands of employees will run their computer tools as online rented products. All of the processing work and file saving will be done on the Internet, with users accessing their tools and files using a web browser.

Software as a Service is subscription based, and all upgrades are provided during the term of the subscription. The software is hosted and updated on a central location, and does not reside on client computers.

I am also excited about the future of SaaS. It 's a pity that some countries have very limited access may not be able to share their experiences, but I think it should not slow down development.

As my opinion Saas means " he capability provided to the consumer is to use the provider's applications running on a cloud infrastructure. The applications are accessible from various client devices through a thin client interface such as a web browser (e.g., web-based email). The consumer does not manage or control the underlying cloud infrastructure including network, servers, operating systems, storage, or even individual application capabilities, with the possible exception of limited user-specific application configuration settings." :)

Have you heard about Storage as a service?
I'd like to say that storage as a Service is popular with SMBs because there are usually no start-up costs (e.g., servers, hard disks, IT staff and so on) involved. Businesses pay for the service based only on the amount of storage space used.
