Are there any domain registration services that don't require an annual fee of (approximately) twenty dollars? As my website is a non-profit site, I don't think that it'd be too cool to have to pay for a domain name.

Brenton,

As no-one gets domain names for free they have to be paid for somehow. There is/was a few places that gave away domain names with free hosting but they seem to have dried up.

On occasion a host will throw in a 'free' domain name with a longer term subscription (usually 6-12 months). Free domain names would be nice, but from my experience they usually have a catch that you could easily avoid by paying a small yearly amount. Go Daddy seem the best of the cheap solutions, while 000domains.com ($13.50) and Doster.com ($15.00) are highly recommended. I use Dotster myself. Their site does seem to be slowing down a little since they started their reseller API though

Nomodo.com (http://www.nomodo.com)

UK-based reseller for INWW.com (aka Melbourne IT), charges 6 pounds/year with a minimum 2-year registration. Fast registration, and quite a good price, considering it gets even lower with a good exchange rate. UK customers can also use the Switch debit card to pay :)

The bad part is that they automatically insert their company details into the Admin and Technical Contacts, and there's no option available to change it. Also, should you decide to transfer to another registrar there is a 15 pound charge :shake:

P.S. I think you guys should add this to the registrars database

Melbourne IT are a funny bunch, with odd ways of doing things. Personally I'd look at other options. A while back I had a customer who wanted his 'trial' domain with Quickbooks transferred out of their system and into something they could admin themselves. What I presumed would be a simple task turned into a lot of bad answers to questions, running in circles and pretty large transfer fees

They actually made Network Solutions look like an easy option :)

The end result finally was the domain is now at Dotster and can be administrated with a simple login and a few pokes of a button.

I spoke to the support at Nomodo and got everything worked out. I had to submit an online form to get the registry key for managing my domain through INWW.COM.

The Admin Contact fields have since been changed to my details :)

Sure, it's somewhat a hassle but support is pretty fast...WAY faster than what I was using before *cough*ukreg.com*cough* and they are courteous as well.

On top of all that, at 6 pounds/year they are probably the cheapest domain registrar in the UK :)
