I wouldn't invest too much time into facebook, IMO. Create a page, add friends & family, update it with blogs and articles and that's that. Use your time for things that would produce better results.

For SEO it's not that useful, unless you're focused on developing more results on Google for your brand name. If so, be sure to link to your Facebook page from your website.

In my own experiences, Facebook would be really nice for traffic purpose but not be helpful for SEO purpose. Optimizing the “About” text box and the “Info” tab to include your main keywords would be necessary. :)
