I have been working with a particular client of mine who has 3 businesses. All of these businesses are linked to each other closely. For all these 3 businesses, the client desires to create a website. What he wants is to have a homepage that has 3 categories linking to the above domains as he is looking forward to create a site for all 3 businesses. Google doesn’t support this and I am sure that they would be the mood to penalize anyone who would do this. Is there any way for me to persuade my client to not do this?

Your three sites are different and hosted on different domain. It doesn't harm you.
