Here's a question. I'm looking for the best link checker that is either free or very low cost.

It must meet the following requirements:

Must not 'click' on banners - can preconfigure ad delivery sites
Must no leave the site - just check link is good
Must be able to follow all links within the site
Online service but could consider locally installed software
Must not hammer the site - should run slowly
Allow specification of excluded files
Must be able to pre-program certain forms e.g. search screens

I have tried:

netmechanic - too expensive
webtrends link checker - tends to hammer and click on banners despite telling it not to.

Anyone found that special link checker out there ?

Thanks

You can't beat a good human for link checking...a bit impractical if you've got a large site though.

A lot of the design tools now have link checkers built in so you can make sure all your links work before you upload your webpages.

I've used NetMechanic before and found it pretty useful in the past. WebMonkey.com might have some reccomendations.

I've found the best link checker is atomz.com. They not only completely crawl your site for errors, but list your site within your own personal search engine. It is very awesome, and is FREE. :)

Good point, I forgot that one.

I'm implementing Atomz Search here right now! The reports are pretty good too. :)
