In my first year of getting started as a web host, I probably threw away 10 Grand within the first six months with buying software, colocating servers to crappy datacenters with 50% uptime if I was lucky. Then if you try to figure out what type of control panel system you are going to use, You'll throw more money away buying licenses to try them out.

The funny thing is that renting dedicated servers can be so expensive. I've seen Linux Servers going from $99.00 - $500.00 + per month and Win2K/NT servers going for $199.00 - Ungodly + per month.

All it takes is a little bit of research. I would hope that as a new host, You'll have your business license, Merchant account, Some extra money or a credit card and some good credit.

If you do it right, You can as an example lease 8 2U Servers with 1.+GHZ, 512MB RAM, 40GB HD ECT for around $300.00 per month. If you use a datacenter such as one of the ones that I use, globalcompass.com, (Say SiteHostZ Sent Ya) You can get 1MBPS of bandwidth for around $225.00 per month.

So you can have:
8 2U Servers = $300.00 per month.
1MBPS Band = $225.00 per month. Buy more as you grow.

So you can have more than enough servers for the price of renting 3 linux servers or maybe 1 Win2K Server. However, The pricing above doesn't include control panels or the operating systems but if your going to use Linux, You'll save a ton.

Just about every state has a leasing company who will buy the eq and lease it to you or do lease to own for a low monthly cost. Or, You can go to a company such as tigerdirect.com and lease 8 Vision 2U servers as mentioned above on a 2/3 year term for around $300.00-$400.00 dollars per month.

While I may have missed some information. The goal of this post is to let you know that "You Can" save money while getting into the hosting business. Renting servers sucks and colo can too. So if you do buy or lease some servers, Be sure to research the colo center first. Downtime kills a hosting business..

Hope you find this usefull.
