Inactive domain that I would like

Someone else has registered the domain name i would like to use but is not using it. What procedure do i need to follow to attempt obtaining the rights to use the domain name?

I'm new at this so please be gentle with the lingo...

HI Stacy,
I think what I would do is first contact the registrant and see if they would be interested in selling it.
If its not being used then you might be surprised and they may have an interest in selling it.
The only other option that I know is to wait until it expires and then the registrar may hold that domain beyond the expiry date, and therefore you would just be waiting until it drops back into the pool. :)

True.. It happened to me as well, but i waited till it got expired and now its mine. But sometimes it takes a while before the registrar lets it back into the pool, so take a plunge and ask the owner first as Martie mentioned. GL
