I am looking to get more into the hosting business. Is it recommended to go with a reseller account or get my own dedicated server, from a place like RackShack? I plan on reselling the space I get on my dedicated server and utilizing the ensim software. Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi Joseph,
Welcome to the WHD forums :)
I would definitely recommend a reseller plan.
There are many options for resellers..you can purchase plans one at a time or also in bulk.
This is a much cheaper way to start and it can give you a feel if you even want to pursue it further...build a client base and then move on your own dedicated server.

So you are saying I should go with a reseller account because the cost is lower for startup. I already have a small client base that will be utilizing the hosting. I was leaning more towards the dedicated hosting since I have a pretty good knowledge of Unix and would like the freedom that the dedicated server provides. I worry that if I choose a reseller plan, and the host has problems or changes policies, it could adversely affect the reputation I am going to try to build. These are just some of my concerns, and I greatly appreciate any thoughts you may have. I am always open to suggestions and comments.
Thank You,

Hi...
Sounds like you would do just fine with a dedicated server then!
I was under the impression that you were just looking to get into the business and had no client base at all. :)

You might also look into something in a fully managed server. While the monthly costs will be higher there's a better chance of having someone there to correct issues if a hands-on approach is called for. Rackshack and their ilk tend to offer unmanaged servers only and though they will help when things go wrong, that help may feel somewhat 'limited'
