I wish to know the unique features people look for in a cloud hosting package especially in technical terms and not just the flexible BW and processor technologies.

Setup architecture itself makes Cloud a unique hosting product. This also makes it a flexible solution as users can upgrade/downgrade server resources at any point of time. Hosting provider just needs to add a new server to the existing cluster and the cluster has more resources which can be used for new VM creation.

Instead of having to move to a different dedicated server if you require more storage space or more RAM for a higher level of performance, hosting in a cloud environment is extremely flexible and convenient. With our virtual servers, you can reconfigure your server with more CPUs, RAM, and disk space within minutes. From a business standpoint, it's highly cost effective as you only pay for what you are using in the cloud.

A cloud will offer you with two prime features, 100% uptime and scalability. With scalability you can upgrade your resources like bandwidth, CPU, RAM and space individually whenever you need them. So if you are planning to select between options like shared, VPS or a semi-dedicated server a Cloud server will be much better compared to all these.

The main benefit of cloud hosting is the flexibility. If you suddenly require more resources they are available, without having to pay for them on a permanent basis.

The user ability to increase and decrease resources as necessary is one of the many attractive features of cloud. 100% uptime will also finally be a consistent and true statement when you see it in relation to the cloud. Where one server fails or is overloaded another will compensate.

Basically Cloud computing is the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices as a utility over a network.

The features of Cloud Hosting are as below :
1. You can run it on any OS and Software that you like.
2. The design of the virtual servers is same as the real servers.
3. It is full controlled by API and Web Console applications.
4. You can specify exactly the use of CPU, RAM, Storage and Bandwidth you require separately.
5. The data is stored in the central so it is secured.

You should also look into how a cloud solution handles backups of your site and database backups. Even thought a cloud solution is built to handle redundancy and failovers, backups should always be kept

Finally, cloud computing is usage-driven. Consumers pay for only what resources they use and therefore are charged or billed on a consumption-based model. Cloud computing platforms must provide mechanisms to capture usage information that enables chargeback reporting and/or integration with billing systems.
The value here from a user’s perspective is the ability for them to pay only for the resources they use, ultimately helping them keep their costs down. From a provider’s perspective, it allows them to track usage for charge back and billing purposes.
In summary, all of these defining characteristics are necessary in producing an enterprise private cloud capable of achieving compelling business value which includes savings on capital equipment and operating costs, reduced support costs, and significantly increased business agility. All of these enable corporations to improve their profit margins and competitiveness in the markets they serve.

Cloud hosting uses an advanced computing technology which offers anyplace, anytime, convenient, and on-demand access to a pool of configurable computing resources, for e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications and services, that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. You should consider that cloud hosting package which offers these features - fast yet secure simultaneous accessibility for multiple users via Internet; full reliability with one hundred percent uptime; rapid elasticity or scalability; enhanced security; pay as you use service; 24 by 7 support services without any charge; rolling data backup; economical pricing; and SAS no.70 Type II and SSAE 16 compliance.

Cloud hosting lowers hosting costs by making functions smarter, more efficient and more reliable without the burden of costly hardware purchases and upgrades.
You can deploy applications and launch web services more quickly without hefty expenditures on equipment.
Because you are no longer forced to upgrade or migrate to new hardware, you can concentrate on promoting and expanding your website and business aggressively as you need.
Hope this info can give you more ideas of the benefit or feature of cloud hosting...

Cost is claimed to be greatly reduced and capital expenditure is converted to operational expenditure. This ostensibly lowers barriers to entry, as infrastructure is typically provided by a third-party and does not need to be purchased for one-time or infrequent intensive computing tasks. Pricing on a utility computing basis is fine-grained with usage-based options and fewer IT skills are required for implementation .
Device and location independence enable users to access systems using a web browser regardless of their location or what device they are using . As infrastructure is off-site and accessed via the Internet, users can connect from anywhere.
Multi-tenancy enables sharing of resources and costs across a large pool of users thus allowing for:
#Centralization of infrastructure in locations with lower costs
#Peak-load capacity increases
#Utilization and efficiency improvements for systems that are often only 10–20% utilized.
Reliability is improved if multiple redundant sites are used, which makes well designed cloud computing suitable for business continuity and disaster recovery. Nonetheless, many major cloud computing services have suffered outages, and IT and business managers can at times do little when they are affected.
Scalability via dynamic ("on-demand") provisioning of resources on a fine-grained, self-service basis near real-time, without users having to engineer for peak loads. Performance is monitored, and consistent and loosely coupled architectures are constructed using web services as the system interface. One of the most important new methods for overcoming performance bottlenecks for a large class of applications is data parallel programming on a distributed data grid.
Security could improve due to centralization of data, increased security-focused resources, etc., but concerns can persist about loss of control over certain sensitive data, and the lack of security for stored kernels. Security is often as good as or better than under traditional systems, in part because providers are able to devote resources to solving security issues that many customers cannot afford. Providers typically log accesses, but accessing the audit logs themselves can be difficult or impossible. Furthermore, the complexity of security is greatly increased when data is distributed over a wider area and / or number of devices.
Maintenance cloud computing applications are easier to maintain, since they don't have to be installed on each user's computer. They are easier to support and to improve since the changes reach the clients instantly.
Metering cloud computing resources usage should be measurable and should be metered per client and application on daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. This will enable clients on choosing the vendor cloud on cost and reliability (QoS).

The advantage of reasoning web host is the versatility. If you instantly require more sources they are available, without having to pay for them on a lasting base.
