Hi Guys

I am having troubles with my dedicated server i have from sectorlink.com every now and then someone is hacking into it even though passwords are changed here and again ...

I want a host i can trust and is there when i need help rather than suck all the money they can in any situation possible..

I currently have

bandwidth - 50 GB
RAM - 512 MEG
Storage - 20 GB
IPs - 8

$ 199 a Month

I want a easy control panel to add sites and all other features to my sites i am hosting, all are private. Tech support should be of the top class!

Do you need a dedicated or would a large reseller package be sufficient for your needs? :)

A large reseller package would put the management portion in someone elses hands (incase you are unsure how to secure the server yourself) and may also cost you less as you would probably only need to pay for what resources you actually needed.

well yeah i would need something that can let me manage my sites easily without worrying about security holes all over the server ... and ofcourse something that costs a bit more reasonable lets say under what i am paying but more transfer...

We can't advertise in these forums so what I will comment back with is maybe you will want to contact a host directly regarding a reseller account or lower cost account? ;)

You might want to look at Nocster. They have very good support and low cost servers.

Feb 12th, 2003, 05:57 AM
Yeah.. am a radio host at a local radio station here. Putting up requests, competitions, bringing up debates, grilling little guys in the Norwegian parliament on what they might have said unknowingly on TV about minorities :P , and the whole nine yards.. that stuff etc :P Its wicked...

And aww you wouldn't understand the music though.. its indian and pakistani :) but strangely we got tons of Norwegian listeners as well..

Totally off topic:

I tell you it still amazes me the global reach forums like this have. I'm sat here in the UK 3000+ miles from most of our members in the US, and happily talking away to a radio host sat in Norway!

I guess the recent world events are keeping you on your toes? Whats the general opinion in Norway on the way things are developing in the middle east?

poorapagal
Feb 12th, 2003, 06:07 AM
Well James, the Norwegian public is totally against what's going on in the Middle East, they say when the only people who will suffer are the kids and women and the reason for attack is mostly the "oil" why would we let them attack the Middle East on the grounds of a theory or whatever of a future attack.

Norwegians are big hearted people whenever a country needs help, so they are quite sensitive on these issues and can't see other countries who need help suffer. Almost everyone who doesn't do anything is in social work..always meeting up in groups against some issue.

To sum it up, yeah most Norwegians making up over 70% - 80% are against the whole thing. Haven't checked the UK area yet, since i moved last year back to Norway. How are you guys on this agenda, with Tony or...

James
Feb 12th, 2003, 06:38 AM
Well UK opinion is the same as Norway, around 80% are against any conflict. Tony is successfully flagging us up as a major terrorist target by travelling the world as envoy to the US war machine. I speak to a lot of people in the US every day througb our business and it seems to me they feel the same way as us. This whole thing is being driven by a very few people in power. Just take a look at London?s major airport today as a result http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2751361.stm

To be honest public opinion has gone out of the window on this one. The tactic they seem to be working on over here is asylum seekers and trying to link them to terror, Bin Laden and Saddam. Already they have made moves to cut those seeking sanctuary by 50% by the end of this year. My worry is this creates a feeling of hatred towards a race or religion in the absence of a real enemy. How many people are going?

poorapagal
Feb 12th, 2003, 02:12 PM
yeah James.. well you know not only asylum seekers are being targetted, an uncle of mine living in USA since 1970 has been flown back to Pakistan. You know why? Well they say you support terrorism, just because he has a couple of million in his bank balance because of his import export business since the time he has been their. Not only did they fly him back, but frozen his assets. With no proof whatsoever. So there are lots of things which are being done in the umbrella of "Terrorism control".

As for london, well see that is yet another major target for those who think things can only be done with terror. Lots of Norwegians are going abroad in trucks to stop it though, but hmm lets see what happens..

i've had a dedicated box at interland for about a year now. they have been unbelievably reliable and really great support. i think any of the bigger companies can offer you the stability you are looking for. you jut aren't ever going to get it out of these little mom & pop operations, especially with all these foreign hackers...

I am new to the forums. I have been with a company in New York called TWS Hosting (http://www.twshosting.com). I have been happy with their pricing, servers and support.

Well how about paying a cheaper price and getting the reliability? Are you managing the server or is your host? Alot of blaming games can happen between a customer and ISP since both claim they never logged into the server and so forth. But, shallal net are good in server security. What type of site do you have?

there are alot of really good webhosting companies out there that offer dedicated service, some of which are far better than others.

I have a couple of dedicated servers from two differant hosting companies and as i would recommend both to you i think one would be better than the other as you are overseas from me.

Brinkster has incredible customer service and plans to match there security is very good also, not to mention they are opening a data center in germany early this year. So it should be done now or should be very soon here.

hope this helps.

Wow you can get a hell of a lot more for your price range. For those specs you could get a tiny closeout server, for about 50 dollars a month at a trusted provider. Take a look at NOCSTER and there closeouts. But be aware that you will probably get double what you ask.
