hi there
Just a question for the hosts out there, do you shut down a site if it has used the bandwidth allowed and never pick the phone up :( well it's happening with me. since two hours i have been trying to get in touch with hostvelocity but no reply ..even the 24 hour service is connected to the voicemail .......................
HELLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
yeah the site used 3GB in 6 days :( btw does the bandwidth also include the time when i was downloading my whole website to my computer , through ftp ??

The way we work is if you are going to go over your limit, we notify you and ask you what you want done. We will usually let the site go until the end of the month, even if it goes over its limit, and we discuss what to do as soon as we can get ahold of the customer. We never cut off a site unless the customer stops paying.
Some hosts track bandwidth by ftp, http, mail, and anything else that leaves the server that is associated with an account. We only track http (we do monitor the others, but as long as the traffic is normal, we don't count it against your account).
Hope this helps.

thanks for the reply allera... :( man i am being messed around so much if you have seen my previous threads ..... always choosing the wrong ones.. I have been trying to get in touch with this guy called Boris (no no not yeltsin) from hostvelocity but his 24 hour ONLY EMERGENCIES phone is on voicemail, i certainly hope he is not a 12 year old (i have nothing against kids running a business) cuz i believe the reason no one is replying is probably cuz of school hours ??
The site has been down for God knows how many hours, that was really lame of him to do that as i have paid over $250 for the whole year .. not that i am gonna run away somewhere ... :(
Losing so much traffic man...you know how long it takes to get the traffic back after you lose some good visitors :(.. It takes ages to bring back the confidence in the previous visitors to visit your site for that specific reason that it's always THERE..it's always UP 24 hours a day ......................

Yea I've seen your posts around. I personally haven't dealt with HostVelocity, nor do I know anyone that has. There hasn't been much talk on this forum about them.
Here's a thread at another forum you may want to look through. Hostvelocity posted a "We're new, review us" type of post and they got quite a few responses. It's more geared to how well developed their site is, but there are other posts in there that are not related to the site design.

That's about all I could find worth reading. The rest I found were ads.
If push comes to shove, and they don't give you the level of support they say they will give you, move on. I agree, the hosting industry is not looking too good for consumers right now in the tech support area, but there are many good hosts out there. Try doing another search through WebHostDir's searches and read user reviews. Do your homework and you'll more than likely end up with a reliable host.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Dear Sir,
Our system is set to automatically suspend all the websites that exceed this bandwidth. However, we learned our lesson from this, so we will disable this function and instead give a 7-day warning to all of our customers that exceed their bandwidth.
You currently have 3GB of bandwidth. An additional 3GB would will be assigned to your account. Finally, we will give you an additional 1GB of bandwith at no charge for as long as you continue using our services. (TOATL: 7GB).
Regarding to your FTP questions, yes - it's also counted in the total amount of bandwidth used.
Finally, we are in the process of getting our emergency phone number changed since Sprint PCS has a tendency to miss certain calls from reaching us. The new number will be announced to all of our customers within 72 hours.
We sincerely apologize for not being available at the time you needed us the most. Since this is a Memorial weekend, our support is only available from 8am to 2am at this time (you contacted us around 6am EST).
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Brilliant hvelocity, you have won me over. I am glad to know that their are some smart "repliers" sitting on the other end of my site server. But would ofcourse love it if you could have some people on phones as well ;) not that i am going to call without any reason.
It always helps to keep in the back of your head that their are human beings on the other end, who are always there.
And no hard feelings.. i hope you understand what i was going through :)
Good luck with your business buddy..

Dear Sir,
The information on how to purchase additional bandwidth was sent to your eMail address.
If there is anything else you need (ie. POP, FTP, subdomains, add. space, etc.), please let us know and we'll add it to your account at no charge.
In addition, the number to my personal cell phone, which is always with me, is in the email, so if anything, please contact me at anytime.
We will have a TOLL-FREE 800 # available to our customers within a week.
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

It's ok hv... i wouldn't want to take advantage of you just because you are on the spot . Atleast you have promised to do something about it and that's enough for me :)
I will happily pay for the extra 3 GB transfer .. and thanks for the extra 1 GB :)

Hey, good one hostvelocity. Its good to see you come out in public and actually respond to a customer difficulty - even it if means changing your business policy.

Kudo's to a hosting provider who has made a customer happy, and turned a negative experience to a positive one.
Many happy referrals, HV.
