Ok here is the situation. I use apache to run a server. I baught a domain name. I want to type in my domanin name (alakayonk.com) and my server respond. NOT BY FORWARDING. i guess inother words that i want my ip 66.68.129.168 to be my name server. how can i do this. my server computer stays on and connected 24/7.
any help will be apriteated.

Hey alakayonk,
You have two options:
A) Run your own DNS server on your machine and register it with your domain registrar. How you do this depends on the operating system.
B) This option is probably the easiest if you go to a site such as dyndns .org or domaincow.com(used to be free I think) You can then use those sites as your DNS server. I think dyndns costs about $30 for life. When you sign up to dyndns.org you need to enter in your ip address and then tell your registrar to point to their DNS Servers.
I use DynDNS dynamic IP service which has been great and I haven't noticed any problems. I have however been running a non critical site on it so I wouldn't know everytime it goes down.
