Hi guys,
I was just curious to see how much it costs Registrar's usually per domain name. I have been checking out the ICANN site and I see a list of domain registrars and there invoicing on how much they pay for all there domain names per quarter. Anyone with experience as a registrar or has a estimate price of how much they pay for per domain per year?
Thanks.

A wholesaler would normally pay between $6.50 - $8.00 a domain per year. There are some cheaper prices out there but there is usually a catch related to you buying other services at the same time as the domain.
Hope this helps.

Its most likely a loss leader strategy. They make a small loss on the domain and make it back on their hosting.
When you consider the cost they pay to get you to become a customer through their marketing efforts, the small loss on a domain really isn't a factor.

Hmmm, and I guess it's thru people like me "accidentally" advertising them, that they get business. May I add, that when you try to get them to transfer a name...u'll wait 4 ever ;)

I think thats probably a size issue more than anything else. Ive never had any direct involvement with them but i know they are growing at a phenomenal rate. Several thousand customers a day the last time i heard. In particular their relatively new US operation is likely to be over stretched. Which could lead to delays.
