I am looking for registrar which offers Domain name below $8. Some of the registrars i found interesting are listed below.
www.DotRegistrar.com
They offer pack of domain/year. You need to consume all the domain units in one year period. Pack start from 5 Domain Units at $12.99 for each domain. If you take 2000 domian pack you will get at $6.49. There are packs 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000. They offer seemless API for resellers. Best of all, you can delete a domain you registered within 3 days.
www.dotster.com
Their reselling plan offers Domain name at $15 when you take domains below 50. It is little high as many offery at near $12 for single purchase (eg. www.000domains.com www.joker.com www.godaddy.com at $8.95)
www.enom.com
I resently found this one as they are the listed registrar for my domain space4host.com The offer seemless API, supports online registration from resellers privileged clients. They also offers free 5MB hosting for all reseller registered domains. It seems to be a good one.
www.stargateinc.com
Offers Domain at $8 if you register 2 or more domains at a time. For single domain they charge $10. There is special rate if you register more than 50 domains.
Is their any other registrar offering a better rate / options. Can any body suggest a better Registrar?.
Thanks,
Boby

Maybe not better per se, but I have been watching this one.
www.directi.com
They are a new startup ICANN registered registrar. The reseller plan they have looks good with you getting domains at ~$8.00 and reselling them for whatever price you won't. The have an API which will allow you to provide domain registration and management of the domain to the client. They appear to be trying to compete with the OpenSRS system, only without the upfront cost.
I have noted that their website is not complete and demo's are not working completely yet. I have talked with them via email and was told that they were still in the construction phase and that they would contact me when they were ready to launch.

Its been suggested that I should use opensrs as my reseller registrar. However, with a steep (to me) upfront cost, I am wondering if there are any alternatives.
I am very wary of tying up with startup type organisations who can be unreliable. Does anyone recommend opensrs - I mean really recommend it ? Or should I look at someone else ?

You can try www.onlinenic.com (http://www.onlinenic.com) as they offer prices like 7.99 if you prepay for 10 domains and 6.69 if you prepay for 100 domains.
Is there any better price?

Hi all
Has anyone tried GoDaddy's PRIVATE LABEL program, is it worth it?
Does the customer get charged directly by godaddy or do we have to pay by our credit card for a discount...and pass it on to the customer hmmm

I use godaddy when a new hosting customer wants me to register the domain for them. I just set them up with a new account at godaddy, input all their information, but use my credit card to pay for it. (I include a $20 charge in the initial charges to the customer when setting up the account.) I just keep the username/password in my offline customer database incase I ever need to get in and make any changes. This way, if the customer wants direct access or decides to move their hosting somewhere else, I can just give them the username/password for their account & be done with it.

Hi,
Also check http://anydotdomain.com they also have domain reseller program for under $9.95 as private resellers with no investment or upfront fee and if you talk to them for bulk they will probably reduce your prices :)

Price is the least of the issues with Registrars. You can get around $8 based on volume no matter who you deal with except NSI and Register.com. I look at value:
How reputable are they? ICANN accredition is only the first step.
Do they offer volume discounts?
Do they support me as a reseller?
Do they offer web hosting services or other lines of business that COMPETE with their resellers?
Do they have automation tools, control panels, notifications for renewals?
Do they post a phone number on their website for support?
(It's worse than annoying when you can't speak to someone to resolve your problem.)
Do they offer other products besides .com,.net & .org?
Do they spam or solicit my customers?
Do they play "Bait & Switch" games with "low-ball" prices?
(Many low priced registrars or their resellers get you at renewal time and make it hard for you to transfer out. Pay now or pay later. Other schemes include park your domain for very cheap but the minute you do anything with it you pay.)
If they're new or not big enough you need to worry about the protections they have on their systems to guard against downtime, corruption, hijacking, loss of data. What happens if they just go out of business?
Like everything else, you get what you pay for.

This is the one that I use to resell domains. It works very well, and I really like the many reseller options they have. Plus, I get an amazing per domain price. I give them 5 stars. The nice thing is that you don't have to go directly to them to become a reseller. You can get a reseller account from ANY other eNom reseller, and some will even give you the same rate as if you went directly to eNom.. except they won't charge you the huge initial deposit that eNom wants.
Cheers!

With some enom resellers you can get a very competitive prices (some offer domain names at $7.15-$7.20) and a lot of features:
your own enom.com reseller login
you can have your own subresellers
eNom XML API Access
eNom Registry Rocket Access
compatible with PDQ
complete control over domains you sell.

Rev:
What do you do when it's time to re-register the domain? If they're no longer your customer then do you just let the domain expire or transfer the domain to them to deal with?

Tucows prices seems a little high considering the fact that with enom or godaddy you get a lot more cheaper prices, and in domain registration, where the markup is very low, every cent is important.

It all depends on what your looking for in a reseller. I use / resell for both OpenSRS and GoDaddy.
It should be noted for a lot of TLD's you may have to go with OpenSRS as they do support .co.uk and .ca among other things (enom and Godaddy don't last I checked). OpenSRS allows you to use your own custom interface (directly interfacing with their registration servers), so for Perl wiz's they could probably do more thru that. I've not worked with eNom - their quote had a very high startup cost and wasn't any cheaper than GoDaddy.

If your not just looking for the lowest price you might want to consider itsyourdomain.com, their affiliate program is easy to use, customizable to your site (most godaddy's look the same), you use it through their anonymous secure connection, they do the billing, the best thing to do is sign up under one of their affiliates, you get a better resellers price that way

Dodora is running a special promotion pricing for Domain Reseller until April 2003.
In addition, they provide a free turn-key registrar software to their resellers. Click here to learn more about the software.

i know you allready checked out enom.
but I would go with them, they have an excellent secondary login for domain names http://access.enom.com where the client can only change domain details, and not any enom account details that the reseller has :)
very nifty

Zoltan, Tucows is an upstanding registrar. Fom a technical level, they are superior than enom or godaddy. However, the DN reseller market is about cash generation. I agree with you. Tucows prices seems a little high at $10.
As far as gone my research, Dodora is the best alternative registrar to Tucows.

Dodora is quite new. Have anyone used them? A feedback would be welcome.

DomainGuru (http://www.domainguru.net/) is great. The resell through eNom, but offer much cheaper startup rates for resellers than eNom does. eNom rocks because you get to use their DNS services and mail forwarding.
I'm not a big fan of TUCOWS because of their lack of DNS.

I've been with Enom for almost 3 years.
We never bothered implementing their API as we don't do the volume to warrant it, but their prices are rock bottom and their management tools are great. You can even change the registrant without a hidden charge been stung on you. :-)
I think if there is one negative point its the way expired names divert back to their default nameservers and show loads of paid geo-targetted adverts. I once had a situation where a client was slow to renew their domain and phoned me on the day following its expiry complaining that an advert for the main competitor was been shown on their web site (amongst dozens of others).
It took a little explaining and I just stuck to the high moral ground, RENEW YOUR DOMAIN BEFORE IT EXPIRES. But I was a little surprised that Enom would do this to me knowing full well I was reseller (which was with their help) co-branding their service. It didn't help that they saw it fit to take this kind of policy decision leaving me to explain it to my clients.
This limitation is easy to work around by having an auto renew registration agreement, cos by ICANN rules you can't transfer a domain to another registrar within the last 30 days of registration so they have to renew with you or cancel the domain. Just write into your agreement that your clients must cancel the registration 30 days prior to expiry, or accept the automatic renewal for the following year.
By and large however, Enom offered excellent value of money, and the intial costs I paid were all towards account credit which I used within a few months.
I think they offer a very good package.
