PageRank?

Is a good page rank absolutely necessary to succeed in an online business. I am thinking that if that were the case then many businesses wouldn't survive because there is so much and no more that can be accommodated on the first few pages.

Good PR does not count, but it matters depending on your line of business.
If you're selling ads on your site, you definitely need a good PR and a good Alexa rank as your bargaining advantage.

Good PR these days is nothing more than a show piece .The real thing is keyword ranking .Even with a good PR a website can have a poor keyword ranking and keyword ranking is most imp.

No it is not all about PR. Many more things can make you successful on the net.

If you have good and unique content on ur webpage then automatically ur page rank will improve.

PageRank isnt that important as only dreamers chase the PR!

What you need to be more interested in is Alexa and your SEO which can make a heavy impact on your website.

Its a good way if you dont understand the alexa system as it gives you a breakdown of traffic is passing through as long as pagerank and links in and out of your website!

Yes that is important only in case you are looking for the selling your PR then trough selling links from your web site. Only for that. I have seen lots of examples and have to say that i does not influence on the SERP. Sometimes web sites with PR0 have the first position in google.

It also depends on what kind business you are running but overall PR is very important factor for any online business. You have to make position in Google if you want to do a successful online business.

You are talking about two different things here. PageRank is definitely important but being on the first is more important. If you have a high PR chances are that you will be on the homepage for quite a few keywords but there is no guarantee.

To my mind, Page rank is very important factor, because if you have a high page rank, the number of your visitors will positively increase. Of course, you should have fresh content of your website in order to generate traffic to your website. All in all, you should have attractive and unique site.

PageRank is an extremely important factor when it comes to getting your site climbing the search engines.. Google works out that when one page links to another page, it is effectively voting for the other page
