Yeah, Linux is your best bet. You don't see many companies offering Windows hosting. I'd go with CentOS 5 as it has the best compatibility with cPanel.

Actually it depends on which coding language is used to develop a site. Mostly linux is used because its cheap and most reliable.

If you intend to develop your sites using ASP, FrontPage, ASP.NET environment, Windows Streaming Media, Access, MS SQL Server, or any of the other Microsoft’s owned technologies then you should opt for Windows hosting packages or servers.
Otherwise, Linux hosting packages and servers are the best option.

Windows hands down.
Why? Because you can't run Office on Linux.
Everyone uses Office
. Do the math.

As an integrated solution though I don't think you can beat Windows. Take Exchange or Sharepoint for example.

If you are going to use ASP and other Microsoft solutions for development then Windows otherwise Linux is the way to go
