Yeah, Linux is your best bet. You don't see many companies offering Windows hosting. I'd go with CentOS 5 as it has the best compatibility with cPanel.

I believe Linux web hosting is probably the most used server, because it is support PHP and MYSQL perfectly.
Windows,it really matters on what coding language you are going to develop with and what your end goal of your project is.

Actually it depends on which coding language is used to develop a site. Mostly linux is used because its cheap and most reliable.

If you intend to develop your sites using ASP, FrontPage, ASP.NET environment, Windows Streaming Media, Access, MS SQL Server, or any of the other Microsoft’s owned technologies then you should opt for Windows hosting packages or servers.

Otherwise, Linux hosting packages and servers are the best option.

    Hope this helps

Yes, yes and yes. As long as you know what you are doing. If you havent worked on Linux before please start with a VPS for your own good. Learn the ropes then graduate to dedicated.

CentOS is likely the distro you want FYI.

    Windows hands down.

Why? Because you can't run Office on Linux.

Everyone uses Office . Do the math.

Not everyone uses office I dont i use open office both on my PC and MAC as i think microsoft prices are too high.

Alot of the people i deal with dont have windows due to bugs and the hidious price.

As an integrated solution though I don't think you can beat Windows. Take Exchange or Sharepoint for example.

If you are going to use ASP and other Microsoft solutions for development then Windows otherwise Linux is the way to go
