How do you monitor email usage?

How do you monitor email usage? I have some accounts I suspect may be created to use as spam accounts. Even though that is clearly agains my TOS and Usage policies.

One account in particular has a basic advertising landing page, but they've installed a cgi and 1 mysql db that contains around 50000 email addresses among other things.

Are you using any type of control panel such as Cpanel? If you are, many control panels usually have a section that limit outgoing emails per customer. So customer A can only send 100 emails per hour. Spammers usually give up on services as such and go elsewhere.

You can also use a program called SpamD. Its free. I've included a description of its primary functions below.

mail incoming/outgoing both consume bandwidth so a good Spam protection is need of every business...

They do not currently have anything that will monitor use e-mail. I was hoping someone had some sort of client for a low price, we can install on user machines. Plan for performance and capacity takes care of itself. Capacity plan, and suffer poor performance.

Exchange System Monitor comes with message tracking, provided you enable it. Depending on how your ESM view is setup, you'll right-click on the server name, then click on properties. On the general tab, you have an option for enabling message tracking. We also like to delete messages after a certain period of time, as otherwise you'll end up with large files.

Once this is enabled, under Tools, you'll find an option for Message Tracking Center. Use the filters to specify a time-frame, and then you can see how many messages were sent and received by a user. Inelegant, but easily available.

Otherwise, you'd have to using arching tools such as Mail Archiva. But this is included and free!
