I have a few questions regarding VoIP. What kind of internet service is needed for VoIP? Is VoIP service reliable and secure? And how good is the sound fidelity of VoIP service?
Your experiences and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

VoIP services transmit voice traffic over an IP network, which in simple terms, means you get phone service through Internet. It's like talking on a normal phone, except it is often much cheaper than regular phone service and not always necessary for a traditional phone. People who are accustomed to using traditional telephone services face a learning curve when deciding a quality service there.

Retail customers of an ITSP may use traditional analog telephone sets attached to an analog telephony adapter (ATA) to connect to the service providers network via a local area network, they may use an IP phone, or they may connect a private branch exchange (PBX) system to the service via media gateways.ITSPs are also known as VSP (Voice Service Provider) or simply VoIP Providers.

VoIP systems employ session control protocols to control the set-up and tear-down of calls as well as audio codecs which encode speech allowing transmission over an IP network as digital audio via an audio stream. The choice of codec varies between different implementations of VoIP depending on application requirements and network bandwidth; some implementations rely on narrowband and compressed speech, while others support high fidelity stereo codecs.
