MPC Computers Introduces the NetFRAME 1720 and 2720 Servers

High Performance, Enterprise Class Servers

MPC Computers, a Gores Technology Group company, today announced the NetFRAME(R) 1720 and 2720 high-performance rack-optimized servers. These servers provide the latest in server technology, including high performance, enterprise-class reliability and advanced manageability. The NetFRAME 1720 and 2720 feature Intel(R) Xeon processors, an 800MHz system bus, the Intel E7520 chipset with support for PCI Express, 12GB ECC DDR2 memory and MPC's new server management software.

The NetFRAME 1720 and 2720 feature Intel's new Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T) and PCI Express. EM64T enables server platforms to access larger amounts of memory and run 64-bit operating systems. PCI Express slots deliver over 3.5 times more bandwidth than existing PCI slots, and they operate at near-maximum throughput without slowing down other devices.

The I/O bus architecture of the NetFRAME 1720 and 2720 offers flexibility with the option for both PCI-X and PCI Express technologies available on the same server. For customers interested in staying with existing PCI-X technology, the servers can be configured entirely with PCI-X expansion slots. For customers that want to utilize the new PCI Express technology, the server is available configured with both PCI-X and PCI Express slots on the same motherboard. This unique feature offers customers with legacy PCI-X cards the option of moving to PCI Express while still protecting their investment in PCI-X cards.

The NetFRAME 1720 offers three hot-swap SCSI or SATA hard drives, while the NetFRAME 2720 offers up to six hot-swap SCSI or SATA hard drives and includes hot-swap power.

The new servers feature a slim rack-mount design that allows multiple servers to fit in a standard-size server rack. The NetFRAME 1720 is a 1U height system, while the NetFRAME 2720 is a 2U height design. Forty-two 1U servers or twenty-one 2U servers can fit into a standard rack, saving customers space in their data center.

Both servers include MPC's new web-based management software, offering customers the ability to manage their desktops, notebooks and server assets over the network with an easy-to-use interface. The new management software features:

• Single administrative console
• Comprehensive system management of hardware, OS and software services
• In-Band (OS-present) and Out-Of-Band (OS-independent) system health monitoring & alerting
• Server diagnostics and dead server recovery
• Security monitoring, asset change, chassis intrusion, and tamper alerting
• Historical performance monitoring and reporting

Standard Service & Support

The NetFRAME 1720 and 2720 servers include three years of on-site service, replacement parts and technical support as part of the standard configuration, with optional extensions for up to five years. In addition, three Network Operating System (NOS) support resolutions are also included with every standard server warranty.

Optional Services
Two, Four or Eight Hour On-site Service


Two, Four or Eight Hour On-site Service provides for mission-critical repair service at a customer's location. The necessary replacement parts will be shipped to meet the on-site technician within two, four or eight hours of being dispatched (depending on the customer's location). This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for eligible customers.

Hard Drive Protection Plan
This service allows customers to replace a failed hard drive while still protecting confidential data stored on the drive. MPC will ship a replacement hard drive, and the customer need only return an RMA form provided by MPC.
